Christopher Shane Hartsell

Christopher Shane Hartsell, 50, of Kannapolis, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025. He was born October 30, 1974, to the late Gary “Slim” Hartsell and Pamela Elwood Hartsell in Cabarrus County.

Chris graduated from Northwest High School in 1993. He received his associate’s degree in fine arts from Brevard College in 1997. “Big Daddy” married Susan Patterson on June 24, 2000. Chris worked as a Firefighter with the City of Concord Fire Department since February 4, 2002. He was honored to serve his community through all his years of service.

Chris owned and operated Hartsell’s Taxidermy for over 20 years. Chris enjoyed hunting and fishing. If he was not at the fire house or at home, he probably was by the water or had a gun in his hand. Chris never knew a stranger. He would talk to you as if he knew you for years. Chris was also famous for his “tall tales”.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Susan; his children, Shelby, Emma Rae and Tucker; his brothers, John (Emily) Hartsell and Patrick “Bubba” (Victoria) Hartsell; his nieces, Ryleigh, Raegan and Madelynn; his nephew, Chance; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, for a time of visitation from 12:00 PM Noon until 2:00 PM at Shiloh Church of Concord, 4149 Odell School, Road, Concord, NC 28027. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM with Rev. William Van Wieren III officiating and with Fire Chaplin, Brad Hunt. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a fund that will be established for his children.
