Cindy Annette Sutherland Morton, 44, of Kannapolis went home to be with her Lord on Friday, November 15, 2019 with her family by her side. Cindy was born on July 3, 1975 in Cabarrus County.
Cindy is survived by her parents, Rev. Bobby Sutherland and wife, Becky Gheen Sutherland of Kannapolis; her daughter, Erika Riley and her husband, Jesse of Landis as well as son, Alex Morton and his fiance, Lindsay Linker of Shelby, along with her beloved grandchildren, Morgan and Luke Riley. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Lynnette Gearing and husband, Herman, her nephew, Daniel Walters and grandmother, Adelaide Taylor, all of Kannapolis.
Cindy was preceded in death by her grandparents, A.F. and Ressie Sutherland, James and Mildred Gheen and Bill Taylor.
Cindy was a member of Bethany Bible Church. Her enjoyment in life was helping others. She would do without to help those in need. Many have been blessed by Cindy’s love and generosity. With her smile, Cindy never met a stranger. Cindy graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1993 and attended RCCC. Here past achievements include winning 1st place in the 9th grade Science Fair and being in the “Who’s Who of American High School Students” in 9th and 10th grades. Cindy loved music, singing with the Chorus from 5th grade through high school and singing with the quartet and trio at church. She especially loved singing with her daughter and sister.
Our family trips to the beach will always be cherished. Cindy enjoyed riding her motorcycle. She also enjoyed cooking, and continued to do so, as her health permitted.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019 at Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 PM officiated by Rev. Chuck Overcash. The family will receive friends prior from 2 to 4 PM at Whitley’s. Entombment will be private.
The family would like to thank all the caring people along Cindy’s healthcare journey over the past few months and especially, the caring staff of Caremoor Assisted Living Center and Tucker Hospice House of Cabarrus County. We appreciate your compassionate care for Cindy and the friendships made.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 or CVAN (Cabarrus Victims Assistance Network) PO Box 1749, Concord, NC 28026.
