Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Clara Lee Mauldin Goforth, age 87, died unexpectedly Saturday, February 6, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC from complications of a massive stroke. She was born February 9, 1922 in Cabarrus County, NC, the daughter of the late Homer Mauldin and Laura Woodell Mauldin. After Laura's death she was also raised by her late step-mother, Laney Freeman Mauldin. She was employed with the former Cannon Mills Co. Plt.#1 Sheet Dept. for many years. Most of the joy of her life was being an artist painting many special works over the years. To her family she was strongly thought of as a loving wife, mother, & grandmother. She was also strongly involved in the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 8989 in Kannapolis where she had served as president and district president. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin M. Goforth; two sons-in-law, Darwin Alexander and Tim Wheatley. Survivors include four children, Maxine Alexander, Johnny Goforth & wife, Sherry, Linda Hamilton & husband Harold, all of Kannapolis, NC, and Darlene Wheatley of Durham, NC; four grandchildren, Shelia Alexander, Jackie Alexander, Tim Wheatley, and Leigh Hamilton; four great-grandchildren, Haley Alexander, Erica Alexander, Mackenzie Linn, and Keira Linn. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, February 8, 2010 at the Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, NC. A graveside service will be delayed until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC in honor of her birthday which would have been celebrated on February 9th. Memorials may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Poston-Perkins Post 8989, 2500 N. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28081. On-line condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com.
Visitation: 6-8:00 P.M. Monday, Feb. 8th at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, Feb. 10th at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

Interment: Carolina Memorial Park
