Clara Jo "Mama Jo" (Spears) Overcash

Clara Jo Overcash (known to most as Mama Jo), 91, went to her heavenly home on June 15, 2021, after a period of declining health.

Born January 17, 1930, in Rowan County she was the daughter of the late John H. and Odessa Spears.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Verlan Overcash and a grandson, Brian Forrest.

Family members left with cherished memories are her children; June Hatley (Craig), Linda Forrest (Tommy), Roger Overcash, Tony Overcash (Pam), Wanda Church (Michael) and grandchildren; Jennifer Wallace (Scott), Josh Chastain, Jonathan Overcash, Jason Overcash (Cassandra), Brent Church (Kailee), Blake Forrest, Tyler Church and 7 great grandchildren.

Our Mama Jo was a Christian who loved the Lord and was faithful in her prayers and tithes. Her favorite verse was Psalm 23 and she loved singing the old hymns. Of the jobs she held, her favorite was being the baker at K&W Cafeteria when it was located on Oak Ave., Kannapolis.  She was also a great baker at home with many requests for favorites. She loved doing puzzles and rocking on her porch watching the birds.

The family will receive friends at 2nd Baptist Church, 807 Sweet Gum, Kannapolis, NC 28083 at 12:30 pm, June 19, 2021. A memorial service will follow at 1pm officiated by Pastor Gary Scoggins.
