Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Clara Mayhew White, age 99, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Carillon Assisted Living, Salisbury, NC after a brief illness.She was born November 15, 1911 in Iredell County, NC, the daughter of the late Tollie C. Mayhew and Lula Blackwelder Mayhew.Clara was well-known as a wonderful homemaker and a mother to all the neighborhood children throughout the years. She was a member of Grace Covenant Church, Kannapolis, NC where she had taught Sunday School, former choir member, and active in various phases of church activities throughout the years. She is fondly remembered as a person devoted to pray and read her Bible every day. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Worth William White; and a son, William Mescal White; three sisters; and two brothers. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Grace Covenant Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Glynn C. Weatherby, Jr. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home.Survivors include her seven children, Ruth Webb of Crownsville, MD, Diane Kidd, Dean White, David White, all of Kannapolis, NC, Gloria Shue and Judy Reed, both of Concord, NC, and Emily Gurley of Cooleemee, NC;Eighteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren;Two sisters, Bertha Eddington of Mooresville, NC and Margaret Campbell of Dallas, NC;And a brother, Rodney Mayhew of Huntersville, NC.
