Clarence Donald “Don” Simmons, 84, of Kannapolis, died Saturday, May 22, 2021. He passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, after a period of declining health.
The family wishes to invite everyone to gather together to celebrate Don's life with a time of remembrance at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel on Saturday, May 29, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.
Don was born February 17, 1937, in Madison Co. GA, a son of the late Joe Walker Simmons and Ida Janelle Anthony Simmons. In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by seven siblings. He was one of ten children. His family moved to this area as a young child. As a young man, he went to work as a fixer at Cannon Mills until retirement. Don was a longtime member of Midway United Methodist Church. He enjoyed frequent trips to the beach. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and developed a special bond with his little dog, Taz.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Louise Lambirth Simmons of the home; his daughters Rena Edwards (Terry) of Concord, Lisa Duganne (Tommy) of Salisbury, and Donna Beatty (Mitchell) of Concord; his five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his brothers Mike and Tony Simmons, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations can be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus Co. 5005 Hospice Lane Kannapolis, NC 28081 and/or to Midway United Methodist Church, 708 S Main St., Kannapolis, NC 28081.
