Clarence Harold "Harold" "Pop" Simmons

Obituary: Simmons, Clarence Harold (Harold) (Pop) Kannapolis, NC- Clarence Harold Simmons, age 81, died Friday, August 31, 2012 at his home after years of declining health. He was born January 4, 1931 in Madison County, Georgia, the son of the late W.C. Simmons and Cora Mae Mitchell Simmons. Harold was employed with Central Motor Lines, then Johnson Motor Lines, still later self-employed for many years until finally working for Cummins Atlantic until his retirement. His family fondly remembers his love of telling jokes and enjoyed owning & operating various race cars and hot rods. He was a person with a personality that attracted people. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Lyles Simmons; and one brother, Clifford E. Simmons. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Marshall Brooks. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the funeral home. Survivors include his sister, Pauline Stirewalt of Kannapolis, NC; his son, Danny Simmons & wife, Gina of Kannapolis, NC; three grandchildren, (Sparky) Danny Simmons & wife, Courtney of Kannapolis, NC, Amanda Rae Simmons & companion, Brian Fowler of China Grove, NC, and Casey Simmons of Kannapolis, NC; one great-grandson, Matthew Simmons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
