Clarence Colon Wellmon, 93, of China Grove, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, February 11, 2021, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
Born January 30, 1928, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late Grady Monroe Wellmon and Rochelle Smith Wellmon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mae Meismer and Frankie Wellmon Davis; and brothers, Willie, Billie and James Wellmon.
Clarence had honorably served his country with the US Marine Corp, during the latter part of WWII, where he was a demolition expert. Following his service, he worked for Cannon Mills as a supply room supervisor, later working for and retiring from Isenhour Brick. Following his retirement, Mr. Wellmon drove cars to auction for various car dealerships in the area. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church. A loving and devoted father, brother and grandfather, Mr. Wellmon will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Loving family members include his children, David Wellmon (Janice), Pam Pritchett (Glenn) and Mark Wellmon (Cindy); his brother, Al Wellmon (Helen); his grandchildren, Crystal McVay (David), Brad Pritchett, Brian Wellmon, Amy Pritchett and Richard Wellmon (Melissa); 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew McVay and Madison Brumbaugh; and nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 17th from 1:00-2:00 pm at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Wellmon will begin at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Timothy A. Kneuss. Burial will immediately follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, with military graveside rites.
