Claude Delmar Wayne Sr., of Davidson, NC- Mr. Wayne passed away in his home at 8901 Archer Road, Thursday, January 9, 2025. Mr. Wayne was born in Wilkes County, NC, on February 20, 1930, to Edward Jesse Wayne and Martha Sheets Wayne. Claude was the youngest of their twelve children, all of whom grew up on their family farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains. He attended Logins School to complete the 8th grade. Claude married Juanita Stone (deceased 11/03/2010) on August 19, 1950, in York, SC, and lived at their present farm home in Cabarrus County since moving there in 1960. Mr. Wayne’s oldest son Claude Delmar Wayne Jr preceded him passing (01/03/2024) but is survived by his wife Nina of Mooresville NC. Mr. Wayne is survived by his daughter Sylvia Kinkaid and husband Wallie of Davidson, and two sons Eric and wife Tammy of China Grove, and Keith and wife Michelle of Concord. He also had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Claude and Juanita were well known throughout the community for their generous gardening bounty from their farm which they shared with neighbors, friends and family alike. Claude was a self-employed Lumber & Timber operator for more than forty-five years before retiring to farm life in the early part of this century. Claude enjoyed gardening, hunting deer and wild turkey and was known to possess great skill in understanding the wild turkey’s nature and behaviors. An exact count was not retained but his hunting buddies estimate he successfully bagged over 100 wild turkeys within his hunting career.
The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis, on Tuesday January 14th from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
He is a member of Peak Creek Church of the Brethren in Laurel Springs, NC, where he will lie in state on Wednesday January 15th, from 1:00 to 1:30 pm before a funeral service to begin at 2:00 pm. Weather permitting a graveside interment will follow in the Sheets Cemetery situated nearby on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The family wishes to thank the many neighbors, friends and loved ones who supported Claude throughout his final years of life. With a special thanks to all the caregivers who were with him around the clock during his last two and half years.
