Obituary: Mr. Clifford Sidney Lumsden, 90, of China Grove, N. C. passed away Saturday September 7, at W.B. (Bill) Hefner VA Medical Center Liberty Lane Hospice Care in Salisbury, N. C. following several years of declining health. Born September 6, 1923 in Stony Point, N. C he was the son of the late William Espy and Nora Rufty Lumsden. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 72 years, Mrs Elouise Overcash Lumsden of China Grove, and two sons, Dwain Lumsden (Blondine) and Earl Lumsden (Vickii) of Kannapolis. Granddaughters Nikki Lumsden- Winecoff (Tracy), Crystal Lumsden Beck (Tim) of Salisbury and Grandson Jeffery Lumsden of Kannapolis. Great-grandchildren are Brayden Winecoff, Megan, Courtney and Anthony Lumsden , and Dawson and Mason Beck. Also surviving are his three sisters, Mrs. Connie Brown (Charlie) of Landis, Mrs. Evelyn Scarborough of Salisbury and Mrs. Lois Avant of Kannapolis, several nieces and nephews with special thanks to nephew Guy Hall for all your care and support during the family's time of need. Mr. Lumsden was a WW II Veteran of the US Army 25th Infantry Division having served in the Philippines, South Pacific. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Poston Perkins Post 8989 Kannapolis and the American Legion. He was a member of Homestead Baptist Church. He retired after 47 years from Cannon Mills as an Overseer in the Machine Shop. After retiring, he worked many years as a security guard at The Pines in Davidson. Mr. Lumsden was a great man loved by all who knew him and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. He will be missed by everyone he touched by his blessed and truthful nature. The family would like to thank the VA Medical Center for their caring and kindness for all veterans in their time of need never to forget the service and sacrifice they continually give for our country. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, Sept 10, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Mitchell Thomas and Rev. Terry Brown. The family will receive friends prior from 12:30 to 2:00 at Whitley's. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Homestead Baptist Church, 105 W. 22nd Street, Kannapolis, NC 28081 and/or Rowan Hospice , 720 Grove St., Salisbury, NC 28144.
