Obituary: Cloyd Benjamin Ayers, 65 of Kannapolis passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House following a brief illness. Mr. Ayers was born in Virginia on July 31, 1947, a son of the late Cloyd Jack and Mattie Oleen Ayers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother. Cloyd was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of Homestead Baptist Church and was formerly employed by Wright & Son Well Drilling. He was a veteran of the US Army and the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife Linda Wright Ayers of the home, a son Cloyd "Mickey" Malcolm Ayers of Pulski, VA, a step-son; James Kluttz and wife Tracey of Salisbury, step-daughters; Brenda Shuffler and husband Terry, and Sherri Lutz and husband James both of Salisbury, and Donna Church and husband Jason of Kannapolis, grandchildren; Lance Corp. Garret Shuffler, Trevor Shuffler, Ryan Lutz, Danielle and Gracie Church, Olivia Kluttz, and Chase Graham, three brothers, and 3 sisters. Memorial services for Mr. Ayers will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Rev. Chris Pethel officiating.
