Obituary: Cloyd Benjamin Ayers, 65 of Kannapolis passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House following a brief illness. Mr. Ayers was born in Virginia on July 31, 1947, a son of the late Cloyd Jack and Mattie Oleen Ayers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother. Cloyd was an avid hunter and fisherman, a member of Homestead Baptist Church and was formerly employed by Wright & Son Well Drilling. He was a veteran of the US Army and the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife Linda Wright Ayers of the home, a son Cloyd "Mickey" Malcolm Ayers of Pulski, VA, a step-son; James Kluttz and wife Tracey of Salisbury, step-daughters; Brenda Shuffler and husband Terry, and Sherri Lutz and husband James both of Salisbury, and Donna Church and husband Jason of Kannapolis, grandchildren; Lance Corp. Garret Shuffler, Trevor Shuffler, Ryan Lutz, Danielle and Gracie Church, Olivia Kluttz, and Chase Graham, three brothers, and 3 sisters. Memorial services for Mr. Ayers will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel with Rev. Chris Pethel officiating. The family suggest memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 Online condolences may be left at www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
