Obituary: Kannapolis Clyde "Sonny" Stewart Overcash, 72, of Kannapolis, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019 after a battle with dementia. Funeral Services will be held 4:00 pm Sunday, June 30, at Mt. Mitchell UMC with Rev. Neal Jones and Rev. J.M. Fulk officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:30pm at Mt. Mitchell prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Mt. Mitchell Church Cemetery. "Sonny" was born May 9, 1947, in Cabarrus Co. to the late Harry Brown Overcash and Myrtle Patterson Overcash. Sonny graduated from Winecoff H.S. in 1965 and furthered his education at Biscayne Southern College later in life. He served in the Navy as a Seabee from 1966-1968 during the Vietnam War. Later as a civilian he worked with the NCDOT, retiring after 32 years of service. Sonny was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors, his grandsons, gardening, and spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of Mt. Mitchell UMC and was a member of the John Christy Sunday School class. His service in church included, being an usher, trustee's member and a senior youth counselor. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joan Childers Overcash, two daughters, Lisa Overcash Laws (Eric) of Mt. Pleasant and Jennifer Leigh Overcash of Concord, two grandchildren, Stewart Allen and Brett Owen Laws, his four siblings, Barbara Overcash Hurlocker (Gary), Linda Overcash Branch (Tommy), Susan Overcash Adams (Jerry) and Donald Brown Overcash (Cathy) all of Kannapolis, and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and all those that knew him. A special thanks to the caregivers at Concord Place for their love and care for Sonny.
