Obituary: Clyde David Seaford, age 99, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House, Kannapolis, NC after a short illness. He was born April 19, 1917 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Clarence Monroe Seaford and Lilly Wright Seaford. Clyde was employed for many years as an overseer at the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One Carding & Spinning Dept. He retired after 32 years of employment. He was a member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC for many years. Clyde was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He participated in the landing at Omaha Beach at the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge also. After military service he became affiliated with the American Legion Post 115 Beaver-Pittman where he had served as commander from 1996-1997. During the war he also received several commendations from the U.S. Army involving clandestine innovative activities in the 605th AAA Gun Battalion which increased the efficiency of the battalion. Clyde was also proud of being an avid motorcycle rider having been credited with riding one million miles over time. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Margaret Nesbit Seaford who died June 19, 1983; his 2nd wife, Mary Demby Bennett Seaford who died July 18, 2013; and eight brothers and one sister. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Dr. Greg Gordon. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC with military rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service. Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews including two nieces, Maxine Kennerly of Mooresville, NC and Jo Ann Dukes of Salisbury, NC; his step-daughter, Agnes Bennett Hughes & husband, J.L. Hughes, Jr. of Durham, NC; and five grandsons, Jennings (Trey) L. Hughes, III, Acie Jim Hughes (Chris), Bradley Shawn Hughes, Brian Shane Hughes (Leah), and Stephen Bennett Hughes (Perla); and five great-grandchildren, Erin Elizabeth Hughes, Bailey Bennett Hughes, Bradley Shawn Hughes, Jr., Brandon Scott Hughes, and Madeleine Nicole Hughes; a second cousin, Raymond Seaford of Kannapolis, NC. He had two special caregivers that took special care of him during his latter days, Bruna Mitchener, who recently moved to TN and Maxine Kennerly, the niece. He also had some special friends, Lynn Dagenhart, Junior Harward, Jerry Tilley, and Dale Triplett who played a significant part in his life.
