Obituary: - Colen Yow Alexander, age 90, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC after a short illness. Colen was born June 28, 1923 in Stanly County, NC, the daughter of the late Jack H. Yow and Bessie Sells Yow. Colen was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant Four, Weave Room for over forty years until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of Midway United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC where she was president and secretary of her Sunday School class at times in her life. Colen is fondly remembered by her family for her love of gardening, doing word finds, and her daughter and son saw her as "the only stranger that mother knew was someone that she did not have the opportunity to talk to." In addition her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James P. Alexander on December 27, 2000; three sisters, Helen Hinson, Edith Lee, and Jackie Butler; and two brothers, Marvin Yow and Craven Lee Yow. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 at Midway United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Burt Williams and Rev. Will Van Wieren III. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Home. Survivors include her daughter, Kay A. Mainer & husband, Charles; her son, Steve D. Alexander & wife, Brenda, both of Concord, NC; six grandchildren, Cherrie Stamey, Candy Cain, Brittany Alexander and Courtney Alexander, Jonathan Ramsey, and Meredith Dillon; three great-grandchildren, Devin Smith, Jessica Draper, and Charles Draper.
