Obituary: Kannapolis, NC- Collis Reid McKnight, age 77, of 313 S. Walnut Street, went to be with his wonderful Lord & Savior to live in his eternal home on Saturday, August 8, 2009 from his home after a period of seriously declining health of 3 weeks. He was born October 24, 1931 in Rowan County, NC, the son of the late Banks Preston McKnight and Maude Nance McKnight. He was employed with the V.A. Medical Center in Salisbury, NC for 32 years until his retirement. He held his church membership at Sloan Lake Community Church, China Grove, NC where he was known as a "prayer warrior." To his family & friends he was an avid baseball fan especially for the Atlanta Braves. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict as a paratrooper. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Beaver McKnight on January 11, 2003; two brothers, Banks P. McKnight, Jr. and Dean McKnight; and a sister, Maydell McKnight. The funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Sloan Lake Community Church, China Grove, NC officiated by Rev. Zachery Sizemore and Rev. Larry Beaver. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, NC with military honors by the N.C. Army National Guard. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include two sons, Danny McKnight of Kannapolis, NC and David McKnight of China Grove, NC; two daughters, Carla Holshouser of Faith, NC and Annette Campbell of High Point, NC; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Boyd McKnight of Salisbury, NC and Nick McKnight of Houston, TX.
