Colon Douglas Shue, 89, of Kannapolis, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at Best of Care Assisted Living, after a period of declining health. Born July 1, 1932 in Cabarrus County, he was the son of the late William and Alice Parker Shue.
During his working years, Colon spent approximately forty years as a sales counselor for Carolina Memorial Park. Colon enjoyed camping. He was a former multiple time State Senior Games Champion in racquetball, also participating in the National Senior Games. He continued playing until the Covid pandemic struck and the facilities were closed. One of his greatest loves, besides his family was going to church. Colon was faithful to his church, serving as a deacon, singing in the choir and going on mission trips. He was also a faithful member of Gideon's International.
Colon's memory will be cherished by his wife of sixty-eight years, Mary Ranson Shue; his children, Terry Douglas Shue and wife Lori of Concord, Susan Shue Seamon and husband Danny of Concord, Tim Shue and wife Deanna of Kannapolis, and Laurie Bingham and husband Ron of Duluth, GA; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a sister Kaye Illick and husband Jim of Altamonte Springs, FL.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Richard, Marvin, Ernest, and W.H.; and a sister, Janice.
A funeral service to honor Colon's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday June 21, 2022 at Brookdale Baptist Church, 2511 S. Ridge Ave. Kannapolis. Pastor Jonathan Barnette will officiate. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. Military honors will be offered at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church.
The family would like extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Best of Care and as to the great folks of Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County for the loving care they provided to Colon.
