Columbus Lee Upright

Obituary: Columbus Lee Upright, 87, of 8228 Smith Road, Kannapolis and formerly of Freeze Road, Kannapolis died at Big Elm Nursing Center on March 10, 2013. Mr. Upright was born on Jan. 3, 1926 in Iredell Co., NC the son of the late Andy Upright and the late Ada Moose Upright. He was employed by Cannon Mills Co. where he worked in the weave room for 42 years. He loved fishing and hunting and loved being a mechanic and handyman. A memorial service for Mr. Upright will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, March 17th at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Marty Payton. Burial will be held at Carolina Memorial Park at a later date. Survivors include 2 sons: David Upright and wife Cathy and Danny Upright; 3 daughters, Ada Helms and husband, William, Wanda Kennedy and husband, Johnny and Melany Knight and husband, Mike all of Kannapolis. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren. Memorials can be made to: Charity Baptist Church, 2420 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083.
