Columbus Upright, Jr.

Obituary: Columbus Lee Upright, Jr., age 63, was called home with the Lord at 11:27 am Tuesday, May 2, 2012 after a short period of declining health. He was born July 11, 1948 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of C.L. Upright of Kannapolis, NC and the late Mary Wright Upright. Mack was a mechanic by trade but had been disabled since 2007. He is fondly remembered for his love of racing, working on cars, and loving the Lord. In addition to his mother is preceded in death by a son, Anthony Dale Upright. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel, Kannapolis, NC officiated by the Rev. Mike Edwards. Burial will follow at Kannapolis Cemetery, Kannapolis, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. At other times the family will be at 8228 Smith Road, Kannapolis, NC. Survivors include his fiancée, Betty Dixon of China Grove, NC; three sons, Michael Upright of Rockwell, NC, Michael Henderson of Virginia, and Jacob Dixon of Iowa; two daughters, Lori Dial of Salisbury, NC and April Upright (Donnie Clayton) of China Grove, NC; sixteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; T wo brothers, David Upright (Kathy) and Danny Upright, both of Kannapolis, NC; and three sisters, Ada Helms (William), Wanda Kennedy (Johnny), and Melanie Knight (Michael), all of Kannapolis, NC. Visitation: 12:30-2:00p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home.

Service: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel.

Interment: Kannapolis Cemetery.
