Conrad Trent Thomas

Conrad Trent Thomas, 77, of China Grove, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 3, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Conrad was born on May 30, 1946 in Iredell County to the late Conrad Clemon Thomas and Janis Dawn Dayvault Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Toma Hatley.

Conrad was a proud United States Navy Seabees Veteran. He served two tours in Vietnam and received the Bronze Star for Valor. After his military service, he spent 16 years working for Dow-Jones in Charlotte. He was a member of Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading his bible and faithfully read it twice a day. He also enjoyed writing stories, going fishing, and had a passion for Hot Rods.

Those left to cherish his memory include beloved wife of 52 years, Betty Sue Key Thomas; sons, Brian Andrew Thomas and James (Stephanie) Lee Thomas; daughter, Heather (Jeremy) Nicole Morton; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Brad (Regina) Thomas and sister, Lydia Barnhardt.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow and begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Whitley’s Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Morton and Rev. Chuck Overcash officiating. Burial will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144 with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
