Obituary: Coolidge Rankin Garmon, 86 of Concord passed away on August 28, 2010 at Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis, his residence for the past eight years. Born in Cabarrus County on July 18, 1924, he was the youngest of ten children. He was the son John Allen Garmon and Mary Alice Stilwell Garmon of Mt. Pleasant. His brothers, Marshall, Giles, Vitchell, Johnny, Avery, Leroy, and his sisters, Ethel, and Mageline preceded him in death. He was a United States Navy veteran and was a retired house painter by trade having painted for local contractors, Cabarrus County Schools, and various local churches. He spent many years enjoying using his talent and knowledge restoring the interiors and exteriors as well as rebuilding engines of antique cars. He was also preceded in death by wife, Virgie Burleyson Garmon, and his wife from a previous marriage, Dorothy Talbert Garmon Hunsucker. Survivors mourning his death include a sister, Gladys Balls of Melbourne, Florida; two daughters, Cathy Garmon Jewett and husband, Steve, of Kannapolis and Patricia Burleyson Rodgers and husband, Horace, of Kannapolis; two sons, Randy Dale Garmon of Kannapolis, and Sandy Ray Burleyson of Lexington; and step-daughter, Barbara Ann Burleyson of Lexington. He is also survived by five grand-children, and six great grand-children. Family and friends are invited to meet at the home of daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Steve Jewett, at 712 Carson Court in Kannapolis to fellowship and continue to celebrate the life of their loved father. The family would like to thank all the caregivers and friends at Transitional Health Services for their dedication and loving care during the past eight years. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 30 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Whitley's Funeral Home in Kannapolis. Funeral services will be held in the Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel on Tuesday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend James Richard Haney officiating.
