Obituary: Coyte Sherrill Cook, 75, formerly of 415 Oak Circle, Kannapolis went home to be with the Lord on Thursday Jan. 14, 2010 from CMC-NorthEast. He was born August 15, 1934 in Iredell County, the son of the late Henry and Thelma Johnson Cook. He was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Wayne Cook in 1970. He retired in 2003 from Cannon Mills Plant 1 #6 Cloth room after 50 years of service. He also worked part-time at Morton's Frozen Foods and at the Mt. Pleasant Prison as a cook for a number of years. He was veteran of the US Army for two years and then with the Air National Guard 263rd Combat Communications Squad for 25 years. He attended Royal Oaks Baptist Church. He also enjoyed racing in his earlier years. A funeral service will be 4:30 PM Sunday Jan. 17, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Leon Smith. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at the National Cemetery in Salisbury later. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lillie Mae Grooms Cook, his granddaughter, Amber Leigh Smith of Kannapolis, his sister Billie Kelley of Kannapolis, his two brothers: Bobby F. Cook of Charlotte and Johnny T. Cook of Concord and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Royal Oaks Baptist Church 904 Texas St. Kannapolis, NC 28083.
