Creola Durham Brinkley

Obituary: Creola Mae Durham Brinkley passed peacefully on Sunday, April 11, 2010. She was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina on Sunday, March 9, 1924 to William Thomas Durham and Lettie Speck Isley Durham. She had four older siblings, Howard, Rose, Martha and Calvin. Creola graduated from J.W. Cannon High School in 1941 where she was crowned "Queen of the May!" She married the love of her life, Homer Edwin Brinkley, on January 17, 1942. Creola had a long secretarial career with banks, the Federal Reserve, the Charlotte Observer, Eastern Air Lines and at Charlotte Memorial Hospital as a medical secretary. Creola is survived by her husband of 68 years, Homer, and two children, James Brinkley and his wife, Sandra of Charlotte and Tamara Brinkley Bucy and her husband Gregg Miller of Charlotte, She is also survived by two grandchildren, Alice Bucy of Huntersville and Brandon Bucy and his wife, Kjrsten Keane, of Lexington, Virginia and two great-grandchildren, Creola Keane Bucy and Russell Keane Bucy. A very special great-niece, Donna Furr, will always be remembered for the love and concern she showed our mother. The family would like to thank all of the staff members at Lawyer's Glen Retirement Center who have taken such loving care of Mother which allowed her to remain "at home" during her illness. Also, much appreciation goes to Hospice for allowing Mother to stay comfortable and for working so closely with Dr. Russ at MMG and the doctors at Sanger Clinic. Whitley's funeral home of Kannapolis is taking care of the arrangements for Mrs. Brinkley. There will be a visitation at their main location, on Friday, April 16, 2010 from10:00 am to11:00 am which will be followed by a 11:30 am graveside service at Carolina Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Mike Hubbard. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Charlotte or to Lawyer's Glen Retirement Center.
