Obituary: Crystal Carolyn Byers Julian, 74 of 1855 Weatherburn Drive, died Wednesday Sept. 30, 2009 at the Tucker Hospice House after a long and courageous fight with cancer. She was born January 23, 1935 in Iredell County, the daughter of the late P.W. and Mabel Eades Byers. She was also preceded in death by her brother Harry Byers and three sisters: Violet Morrison, Pearl Eagle and Grace Pope. She was a 1953 graduate of Statesville High School. She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church since 1955 where she had been a Sunday school teacher for 50 years and a member of the Ada Dayvault Circle. She was a Registered Nurse having graduated from the Louise Harkey School of Nursing at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital in 1956. She later became a real estate broker and along with her husband operated Julian Properties in Kannapolis for many years. She also loved spending time with her grandsons and gardening. Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Saturday at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Brenda Newman. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Whitley's Funeral Home. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Glen Julian, her daughter Crystal Julian Mercer and husband W. Fred of Winston-Salem, her son, Mark R. Julian of Landis, her two grandsons William F. Mercer Jr. and Samuel A. Mercer, her two sisters Virginia Hamrick of Oak Island and Bunnie Allen of Shelby and many loving nephews and nieces.
