Curtis Browning, Sr

Obituary: Kannapolis, NC Curtis Lee Browning, Sr. age 100, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Brian Center Nursing and Rehabilitation, Concord following a period of declining health. Curtis was born November 28, 1918 in Guilford County, NC a son of the late John W. Browning, Sr. and the late Alma Barts Browning. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Dorcus Browning. Curtis serving in the 96th Division of the US Army during WW2 where he received the Bronze Star along with other metals. He retired from Cannon Mills Company, Plant #1, #7 Spinning room as a machine fixer and later a foreman, having 47 years of service. He was a member of Genesis Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M .Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Genesis Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Gene Edwards. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The remainder of the time they will be at the residence. Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife; Eva Mae Phillips who he married June 6, 2007, a son, Curtis Lee Browning Jr. of Landis, one brother, John Browning Jr, of Kannapolis, two grandchildren, Lorie Wilson and husband Dennis of Salisbury, and Todd Browning of China Grove, five great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He is also survived by four step children; Justin Wayne Phillips of Rockwell, Rodger Dale Phillips and wife Dawn of Kannapolis, Vickie Phillips Rogers and husband Darrell of Rockwell, NC, and Sherry Phillips Moore of Faith, NC. Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Browning. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Genesis Baptist Church Building Fund, 9710 Old Concord Rd, China Grove, NC 28023.
