Curtis Relaford Simmons, 94, of Concord, peacefully passed away Friday morning, February 7, 2020, at Tucker Hospice House.
Born June 7, 1925 in Hull, GA, he was a son of the late James Hosie and Mary Smith Simmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary Charlotte Willoughby Simmons in 2008, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and a son-in-law, James Hathcock.
Curtis retired after 30 years of loyal service as a truck driver. Following retirement, he drove for Buddy Gregg Motor Homes for 10 years, which he dearly loved. Mr. Simmons was a talented dancer and was able to be on the Grand Ole Opry. He and his finace’, Ginny, often shared their dancing talents with area senior citizen groups. Mr. Simmons loved his family and enjoyed gardening, flowers and yard work. A sixty year mason, Mr. Simmons was a member of Allen Graham Masonic Lodge.
Family members left with cherished memories include his daughters, Sherry Kimbrell (Richard), of Martinsburg, WV and Mary Delle Hathcock, of Charlotte; his much loved fiancée, Ginny Watson; his grandchildren, Chuck Hathcock (Christine), Curtis R. Kimbrell (Chrissy) and SuAnna McCulley (Jason), and 7 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Whitley’s Funeral Home. Funeral services to remember and celebrate the life of Mr. Simmons will begin at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with masonic graveside rites.
