Dale W. Norwood

Dale W. Norwood, 82, of Kannapolis, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was born January 2, 1941 in Logan, West Virginia to the late William Snipes and Virginia Ethel (Wortham) Norwood.

Dale graduated from A.L. Brown High School in 1959. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from UNCC. Dale worked in a large accounting firm before opening his own practice, Dale W. Norwood CPA Accounting Practice.

Dale married Linda Joyce Hurst on November 1, 1969 in their home on Hazel Avenue. Dale and Joyce raised three lovely girls, Linda, Gina and Ashley. Dale was very involved in the girls’ education and was the coach of their softball teams. Dale was a faithful member of Jackson Park United Methodist Church in Kannapolis. He was the treasurer for the church. He was also a member of A Walk to Emmaus.

Dale was an avid sports fan. He collected baseball cards since he was a little boy. He enjoyed spending time with his lunch buddies long into retirement. Dale and his family spent many years enjoying the beach. They have created many wonderful memories in their beach home for over 30 years. Let it be camping, being at the beach or spending time at home, Dale loved being with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Dale is survived by his wife Joyce; his two daughters, Gina Norwood Smith (Dale R. Flackett) of Greenville, SC and Ashley Norwood Johnson of Concord; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Kennedy Smith; his sister, Carol Thomas (Robert); sister-in-law, Diane H. Jones (Robert); nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Leigh Norwood-Hart; his brother, William S. Norwood (Helen); brother-in-law, Jerry H. Hurst (Amy) and his parents.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 12:00 Noon at Jackson Park United Methodist Church, 715 Mable Ave, in Kannapolis. The funeral service will begin at the church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Laurie Knoespel officiating.  Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, 601 Mt. Olivet Road, Kannapolis.
