Damon William Hudgens, 48, of Kannapolis, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 22, 2021. Damon was born in Florida on January 25, 1973 to the late Jerry Hudgens, and Sharon Riggs Cornelius, who resides in Nebraska.
Damon graduated from AL Brown High School in 1992 and was a 1997 graduate of UNC-Charlotte. He worked as a Senior Technical Operations Analyst for a large Corporation in Mooresville.
God spent extra time when he created Damon. To know him was to love him, and he was loved by many. He had an infectious smile and laugh that would win hearts the moment you met him, and Damon never met a stranger. He was known for his kind heart and would drop whatever he was doing to help a friend in need. Those who knew him well always looked forward to his big “bear hugs”. His generosity knew no bounds to those he loved, as well as to strangers.
Damon was an optimist, even during trying times. He could lift the spirits of those around him with that smile, and his innocent, fun, and childlike sense of humor. He lived and loved an active life. His interests included camping, exercising, golf, family gatherings, his Miami Dolphins, NASCAR, fishing, and his beloved Tarheels. He was also an accomplished photographer, and many family outings and activities are now beautifully captured forever due to his skill.
Damon had been an active participant of the F3 organization (Fitness, Fellowship, Faith). He loved and spoke often of this group of men who became “brothers” to him. He and his family were active members of Connect Christian Church in Concord where he enjoyed being an usher, and teaching Sunday school with Amanda.
Damon created a beautiful family with the love of his life, Amanda (Mandy) to whom he had been married for more than twenty years. Damon would say that his proudest and greatest achievement in this life would be his two children, Jaron (16) and Alaina (14). He was an involved father, and his children could count on him to always be at any of their activities. He loved them with all of his heart, and they knew it.
Damon will be sorely missed, as his heart touched many lives. He is survived by his wife Amanda and his children Jaron and Alaina. He is also survived by his mother Sharon and Mike Cornelius, special Uncle Ronny (Papa) and Aunt Susan (Nana) Hudgens, and his cousin Kirk Hudgens who was like a brother. Survivors also include in-laws Larry and Wanda Nixon, brother and sister in-law Bradley and Traci Nixon, and their children, close cousins Abbey and Jack. There are many friends as well; too many to list here, all who loved him dearly.
Services will remain private at this time. A larger memorial service is being considered at a future date.
