Daniel Joseph Childers, 72, a lifelong resident of Kannapolis, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 after a long illness. Danny was born May 1, 1947 in Kannapolis, to the late Willie Childers and Laura Carter Childers. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Camilla C. Karriker.
In his early years, Dan was a manager for Harris Teeter stores. Later, he and his lifelong friend, Grady Hardeman had Auto World of Kannapolis for 23 years.
Danny was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam.
He enjoyed Cruise-in’s with his friends and loved driving his classic cars. Also he had a passion for tasting and visiting barbeque restaurants, especially College BBQ in Salisbury.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Diana Childers; daughter, Heather Childers, stepdaughter, Sabrina (Sean) Finkbeiner; step-son, Geoffrey O’Donnell; seven grandchildren, Brynne (Michael) May, Conner O’Donnel, Grant Finkbeiner, Kylie O’Donnell, Emma O’Donnell, Jacob O’Donnell, and Mia O’Donnell.
A service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Whitley’s Funeral Home. A reception to celebrate Danny’s life will be held following the service at the Whitley Annex Chapel on site. Burial will be on Tuesday, November 5, at the Salisbury National Cemetery of Salisbury at 10:00 a.m.
