Obituary: Darrell Lee Stirewalt, 48, of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at High Point Regional UNC Health Care following a serious illness of eight days. He was born March 23, 1966 in Cabarrus County, son of Robert A. Stirewalt and Mae Perry Stirewalt of Mooresville. Darrell was a 1984 graduate of South Rowan High School. He was a veteran of the US Army Armored Division where he drove a Bradley vehicle. Darrell had been employed with the NC Dept. of Correction for 26 years. He was a member of Bethpage United Methodist Church. Darrell was a friend to all who knew him. He loved animals of all kinds. He was a very devoted and loving father to his three children and was a loving son to his parents. Survivors, in addition to his parents include three children; Katelynn Colleen Stirewalt, Lauren Gray Younts and Dustin Clay Younts. He is also survived by his ex-wife Tiffany Stirewalt. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel conducted by Rev. Duane Melton. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with graveside rites conducted by the NC Dept. of Public Safety Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel from 1:30-3:00 P.M. prior to the service. At other times they will be at the home of his parents in Enochville.
