David Leonard Christy

David Leonard "Digger" Christy passed away August 24, 2021 in Concord, NC. A private memorial service will be held at Enochville Church of God at a later date.

He was born on July 18, 1945 in Cabarrus Co., a son of the late Walter Elmore Christy and Roxie Arthurs Christy. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by 6 of his brothers and 2 of his sisters.

David was the youngest of 11 children and his siblings named him "Digger" because if he wanted to go fishing with them, he had to dig the worms for bait. David was a lifelong area resident and worked for many years as a maintenance Tech for Time Warner Cable until he retired. His children fondly remember his "impromptu" trip adventures. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening. David loved to go to the beach with his family. He loved to teach his family especially his grandchildren all about gardening, fishing and flounder gigging. David was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gloria Miller Christy; his daughter, Donna Christy Austin (Randy); his daughter, Sandy Christy Sawyer (Robert); His son, Randy Christy (Tracey) and his daughter, Holly Christy; his brother, Steve Christy of Concord and his sister, Annie Christy Long (Billy) of Rockwell. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Rob Sawyer (Brandi). Lauren S. Janson (Mike), Ryan Austin, Meredith A. Tino (Ryan), Sarah Christy, Garrett Christy, Hayley Plott, Laila Baldwin and his two great-grandchildren; Aiden and Brooklynn Tino.
