David Eugene Goins

Obituary: David Eugene "Gene" Goins, 88, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Goins was born April 22, 1924 in Cabarrus County to the late Val and Annie Mae Goins. He retired from Cannon Mills; was a member of First Wesleyan Church; was a U.S. Army Veteran; and he loved fast pitch softball and coached the Cannon Mills World Industrial Softball team. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Gabrielle "Gabby" Goins of the home; two sons, Terry Goins and his wife, Sharon of Concord, and Marc Goins of Kannapolis; a daughter, Donna Talbert and her husband, Earl of Concord; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Conard Goins and Harold Goins both of Kannapolis; two sisters, Sarah Hamm and Willette Wilkerson both of Kannapolis. A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 12:30-2:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.
