Obituary: Reverend David Baxter Jacobs, 80, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 7, 2013. He was born on April 9, 1933, in Cooleemee, North Carolina, a son of the late Charles and Sadie Jacobs. He was joined in marriage to Glenda Price Jacobs on August 11, 1952. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and one daughter. Glenn and Janet Jacobs of Statesville, Chuck and Kathie Jacobs of China Grove, and Sheila and Ron Holt of Salisbury, as well as one brother, Carl and Doris Jacobs of Mocksville. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers. He served in the United States Marine Corps, was a graduate of Lee University, and a Church of God minister. He pastored in Ohio before returning to North Carolina. He also worked as vice president of Grove Construction in China Grove. He was an active member of Kannapolis West A Church of God, serving as a Sunday school teacher for many years, as well as an elder and board member for the Big Elm retirement and nursing center. Visitation for Rev. Jacobs will be from 5:00 to 6:30 PM Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013 at Kannapolis West A Church of God. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM officiated by Rev. Sam Crisp and Dr. Greg Sloop. Burial will be private on Thursday at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in remembrance of Rev. David B. Jacobs may be made to the West A Church of God choir fund, 2211 West A St., Kannapolis, NC 28081. Online condolences may be left www.whitleysfuneralhome.com
