Obituary: David Baxter Settlemyer, 72, formerly of Kannapolis, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at Oak Park Retirement Community in Salisbury. He was born in Kannapolis, NC on August 19, 1938 to the late Charles Baxter Settlemyer and Irene Wilkinson Settlemyer. Mr. Settlemyer was a veteran of the United States Air Force. An avid scouter, he served in Boy Scouts, Order of the Arrow, Wood Badge and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, June Carter Settlemyer, and his stepmother, Louise Bost Settlemyer. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law John and Joan Settlemyer, and grandchildren Anna and Luke Settlemyer of Huntersville, NC. He is also survived by brothers Phillip Settlemyer of Marietta, GA and Paul Settlemyer of Davidson, NC. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel officiated by Rev. Jeff Hassell. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 in the Annex Chapel. Private interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Central NC Council of BSA, 32252 Hwy 24-27, Albemarle, NC 28002 designated for operations of Camp John J. Barnhardt.
