Delores Grace (Childress) Roten

Delores Grace Childress Roten, 86, of Kannapolis, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at her residence.

Delores was born on July 2, 1937 in Iredell County. She was a cherished daughter of the late James Childress and Lucille Brown Childress. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry C. Roten; and grandchildren, Kristin Honeycutt and Karen Roten.

Delores was a graduate of Corriher Lipe High School. Throughout her life she was always a hard worker. Delores took excellent care of her family and tended to her home all while having a career. Delores worked for Cannon Mills Plant 1, Better Life, Clarks, and retired from Philip Morris. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading a good book and taking trips to the mountains. It always filled her heart with joy to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was admired and loved by all who knew her, she will be truly missed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters; Tamara R. Beaver (William) of Concord, Donna L. Roten of China Grove, sons; Tyron C. Roten (Elaine) of China Grove and H. Wayne Roten (Barbara) of Kannapolis; sister, Joyce Stilwell of China Grove; and brother, Jimmy Childress (Ginger) of Oak Island, NC. She was also blessed with 9 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 PM on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Whitley’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with Rev. Alan Thompson officiating. Interment will immediately follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
