Dennis Gwaltney

Obituary: Dennis Dean Gwaltney, 66, of Charlotte went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at his residence following a period of declining health. Dennis was born August 12, 1947 in Cabarrus County, NC son of the late Arnold Fleet Gwaltney and Mattie Bell Davis Gwaltney. Dennis was a 1965 graduate of A.L.Brown High School, Central Piedmont Community College, and UNC-Charlotte. Mr. Gwaltney was a US Army veteran serving in Vietnam where he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and three Air Medal Awards. At the time of his death he was a member of Grace Presbyterian PCA Church in Harrisburg; where he was a member of the church choir. His prior church membership was at Back Creek Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder and a Sunday school teacher. Dennis was employed by the city of Charlotte as a Senior Project Manager in the engineering department for 39 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed attending basketball games at UNCC, fishing and spending time with his family.He dearly loved his two grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 43years, Linda Stancil Gwaltney of the home, one son, Marcus Dean Gwaltney of Charlotte, daughter, Jill Gwaltney Blankenberg and husband David of Jamestown, two grandsons, Dylan and Samuel Blankenberg and an uncle, Horace Davis of Kannapolis. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Grace Presbyterian PCA Church in Harrisburg conducted by Rev. Doug Agnew. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the funeral. At other times the family will be at the residence. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M.Saturday at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 2423 Honor Guard.
