Dennis Derwood McAnulty, 67, of Concord passed away December 8, 2021 at Atrium Health-Cabarrus. Denny was born April 6, 1954 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Kenneth and Bertie McAnulty.
Denny had worked at SellEthics Marketing Group for 22 years as a marketing broker. He was a member of Parkwood Baptist Church. Denny was a family man, his passion was his wife, children and especially his grandchildren. He loved going to the beach, golfing with his children and "Bleed", surf fishing and going to Disney World with the family. Denny was an Eagle Scout. He was a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School where he played baseball on the team that won the North Carolina State Championship in 1971 and was inducted into the Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame in October 2018. He also attended Pfeifer College where he played baseball.
After marrying Debbie in 1998, his passion became loving, cherishing and honoring his wife and being there to support Zane, Josh, and Zach. He always made himself available to listen and help when he was asked to. There was no greater love that he had than Christ and Debbie, other than his grandchildren. It did not matter what he was doing or what was going on, he would drop it to spend time with them. "Poppy" poured his life into his grandchildren, he shared experiences with them, taught them about gardening, shooting BB guns, tying knots, walking around Disney World, fishing, being outdoors, and just the importance of being there. He was the best Poppy anyone could hope for, even when he had no idea what he was doing when they asked him to help build something he did it to the best of his ability, or pretending to be a patient so the kids could wrap him up and make him better. He made a lasting impression on all of those he touched, especially his family.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 6:30 PM Monday, December 13, 2021 in the Parkwood Baptist Church FMC officiated by Rev. Michael Waters. His family will receive friends prior from 5:00 to 6:30 in the FMC.
Denny is survived by his wife, Debbie McAnulty, three children, Zane Corriher, Josh Corriher (Audra), Zach Corriher (Mandy), grandchildren, Ahnna Leigh, Lily, Piper, Ethan, Asher, Drew, Lincoln, Ava and beloved mother-in-law Frances Hartsell who always treated him like a son, sister-in-law Lori Rodgers (Chuck), brother-in-law Tony Hartsell (Nancy), and late brother-in-law Jeff Hartsell, niece Sarah Hall (Travis), nephews Travis Rodgers (Elizabeth), Ryan Hartsell (Sarah), and Pat Drinkard (Kenda). Denny had a favorite aunt of Debbie's, Barbara Fields that he took along with his mother-in-law everywhere from 1999 to present, mountains, beach, DisneyWorld, out to eat every Friday and Saturday night, who passed away the morning Denny did. We can imagine her finally saying to him "you led me around for 22 years, now it's my turn to lead you Home". He also had a sister Karen (Danny), nephews Ben (Holly) and Hunter (Erin), and their children.
