Obituary: Denton "Denny" L. Bennet, 67, of Concord was called home from Bob and Carolyn Tucker Hospice House after a period of declining health. A memorial service to celebrate Denny's Life will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Davis officiating. His family will receive friends at Whitley's Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday prior to the memorial service. At other times the family will be at 405 Forest Ridge Rd., daughter Tammy Laursen's home. Denny was born January 21, 1948 in Utica NY, a son of the late Denton and Muriel Bennet. Denny was a longtime area resident and was of the Baptist faith. Denny raced his Chevrolet #21 for many years at Concord Speedway. He was owner of Denny's Cars and Mufflers in Concord. Denny enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, Denny was also preceded in death by 2 brothers; James Bennet and Fredrick Bond. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 37 years, Debbie Gulledge Bennet of the family home, his daughter, Tammy B. Laursen (Tony) of Kannapolis, his sons; Joel Bennet of Gold Hill and Denton L. Bennet, Jr. (Jennifer) of Kannapolis, 5 grandchildren; Angel L. Barnes (Duane) of China Grove, and Leigha, Sabrina, Trae and Mykaela Bennet, and 1 great-granddaughter, Kennedy Barnes. He is also survived by his brother, Tracey Bond of North Carolina and 3 sisters; Barbara Billings, Beverly Billings and Sheila Bennet, all of New York.
