Obituary: Dewitt Lafatte "Dee" Boger, age 91 of Kannapolis died Monday, August 19, 2013 at Big Elm Nursing Center after a period of declining health. His funeral will be at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Whitley's Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 2:30 PM Wednesday at Whitley's Funeral Home. Dee was born September 25, 1921 in Davie Co., a son of the late Noah A. and Chattie Blankenship Boger. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps in WWII; serving in the Pacific theater where he saw action in the Philippines, New Guinea and Okinawa. Dee was a long-time member of Sharon Baptist Church in Concord. He served for many years as a deacon and an usher. Dee worked for many years at Cannon Mills Plant #1 - #6 weave room. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his harvest with friends and neighbors. Dee grew beautiful camellias and azaleas. He also enjoyed woodworking and collecting clocks. In addition to his parents, Dee was preceded in death by his wife, Lodena Bailey Boger; his brothers, Herbert, Millard, Gilbert and Mack and his sisters, Lillian Blackwelder, Ina Mae Boger, Sarah Jane Chaffin and Nora Sloop. He is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the kind folks at Big Elm Retirement and Skilled nursing, which cared for Dee for the past five years.
