Obituary: Dionne Simpson Whitley, 76, of Concord, passed away on Thursday , September 19, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. Dionne was born July 16, 1937, in Concord,NC to the late Charles T. and Helen B. Simpson. Affectionately known as "Dee-Dee", she lived a life of nurturing and loving deeply her family. Her husband, William H. "Junior" Whitley, Jr., her children, and her grandchildren were the lights of her life and her greatest achievements. She will always be remembered for her devotion, kindness, and love to her family, which brought her much happiness and joy. Dionne had a huge heart for children. She served passionately for 25 years as a substitute teacher in the Cabarrus County School System and touched the lives of countless Girl Scouts, 4-H Equestrians, and Northwest Trojans as a devoted volunteer. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of fifty-seven years, W.H. Whitley, Jr., four daughters: Susan W. Williams(Billy), Ebbie W. Hendren (Wayne), Robin W. Lancaster (Scott) all of Concord and Kathy W. Lemmon(Robert) of Westminster, SC, nine grandchildren: Tara, Chad, Trey, Mallorie, Lindsey, LeAnn, Bailey, Pressman, and Merritt, three great-grandchildren: Luis, Sharpe, Parker and her brother, Charles F. "Shay" Simpson (Monika) of Oak Island, NC, along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Whitley Funeral Home Annex Chapel, 1748 Dale Earnhardt Blvd, Kannapolis, NC. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 301 Mt. Olivet Road, Kannapolis, NC with the Reverends Cecil Donahue and Wes Judy officiating. Entombment will follow at their family owned business, Carolina Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum.
