Obituary: Donald Ray Draughn Sr, 80, of Kannapolis, formerly of High Point, NC went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House following a period of declining health. He was born November 1, 1934 in Guilford County, NC a son of the late Webster Odell Draughn and the late Lois Violet Coltrane Draughn. Mr. Draughn was a charter member of Lake View Free Will Baptist Church in High Point. He was lead mechanic with Hatteras Yacht Company in High Point retiring in 1990 with 27 years of service. He was a veteran of Korea serving with the US Navy on the USS Hornet and the USS Shangri-La. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling as long as his health permitted. He loved reading his bible every day. Funeral services will be 2:L00 P.M. Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Lake View Free Will Baptist Church in High Point conducted by the son, Rev. Donald Ray Draughn, Jr. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro with military graveside rites conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard. There will be a visitation Monday, June 8, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the residence. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty W. Draughn, who was employed at Montlieu Avenue Elementary School in High Point for many years, one son, Rev. Donald Ray Draughn, Jr. and wife Cathy of Kannapolis, one daughter, Deborah Draughn Bright and husband Steve of Mooresville, one grandson, Joshua Lee Bright and one sister, Elizabeth Elkes of Archdale. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Memorials may be made to Ben Avenue Free Will Baptist Church, 611 Ben Avenue, Kannapolis, NC, 28081.
