Obituary: Donald Ray Cagle, 73, of Concord passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at CMC-NorthEast. He was born November 9, 1940 in Rowan County, the son of the late E.M. and Margaret Cagle. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Corey Wallace. He was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School Class of 1959, graduate of N.C. State University Class of 1965 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and received a Master's degree from Troy State, Montgomery, Alabama. He joined the US Air Force in 1965 and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1988 after 23 years of service. He had served as an Aircraft Maintenance Staff Officer, Missile Launch Officer and a faculty member of Air Command and Staff College. After retiring from the military, he worked as a project manager for SAIC, a government contractor until 2003. Don loved his family more than anything. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed jazz music, loved cars, playing ball with his beloved dog, Molly and spending time with family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, November 7, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Kirk Tutterow. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park with military honors by the US Air Force and the Cabarrus Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 PM prior at Whitley's. He is survived by his wife of 53 years and high school sweetheart, Dianne Huggins Cagle, children, Kelly Wnuk (Mark) and Donald R. Cagle, Jr. (Jannae), grandchildren, Robby Wallace, Parker Cagle, Logan Cagle, Lily Cagle, a special brother, Ken Huggins (Kathryn) and his special friend (beloved dog), Molly.
