Obituary: Donald Ray Campbell, 83, of Concord, NC passed away at his residence on July 30, 2015. Mr. Campbell was born on June 18, 1932 in Iredell County, NC the son of the late Ray Lanier Campbell and the late Mae Plyer Campbell. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Norman Campbell and 2 sisters; Nancy Carolyn Campbell and Barbara Campbell Hines and a niece, Billie Galloway. Mr. Campbell was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Navy and was a lifetime member of Poston Perkins V.F.W. He was a graduate of Cannon High School, attended Davidson College and Biscayne College. Don was a member of Lane Street Baptist Church. He retired from Fieldcrest Cannon after 42 years of service as a Dept. Manager of the Bleachery and Dryers Dept. The service for Mr. Campbell will take place at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 3, 2015 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Brother Bud Welch. Burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00 p.m. before the service at Whitley's. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Tommie Clark Campbell of the home, nieces and nephews who affectionately called him Papaw Don; Candy Smith, Penny Hurst, Amber, Todd and Brian Widenhouse, Dustin and Cody Smith.
