Obituary: Donald Ray Dancy, 74, of Kannapolis died Friday, November 19, 2010 at his residence. He had been in declining health but death was unexpected. He was born January 20, 1936 in Cabarrus County son of the late James Howard and Kathleen Price Dancy. Donald was retired from Interstate Brands (Merita) as a foreman in the fried products dept. with 29 years of service. He attended New Hope Lutheran Church as his health permitted, and was a US Army veteran. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed fishing. Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Whitley's Funeral Home Main Chapel conducted by Rev. Kim E. Trabold, pastor of New Hope Lutheran Church. Internment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00-3:00 P.M. Sunday prior to the funeral service. At other times they will be at the residence. He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Jean Helms Dancy, daughter: Kelli Dancy both of the home, a sister: Jean (Bobby) Cook of Kannapolis and his beloved canine companion "Daisy". He is also survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Dancy who died November 28, 2005. Memorials may be made to New Hope Lutheran Church, Outreach Fund, 1615 Brantley Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083. The family would like to express their thanks to Cabarrus County Regional Home Health and Hospice, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 for the love and support shown to them during Donald's illness.
