Donald Franklin Goodson

Obituary: Donald Franklin Goodson Jr., age 69, of China Grove passed away on Saturday, August 1st after a period of declining health. Don was born on November 3rd, 1945 in Kannapolis, a son of the late Donald Franklin Goodson Sr. and Dorothy Hethcock Goodson. After graduating from A.L. Brown High School in 1964, he served his country proudly in the United States Navy. He was employed by the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salisbury until his retirement. He also worked part-time at R & L Motor Lines in China Grove until his death. Don was a sports enthusiast. He loved watching NFL football games and he was an avid Carolina Tar Heel basketball fan. He also enjoyed spending time with his beloved dogs, Linus, Charlie and Peanut. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Fulton Goodson of Kannapolis. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, one son, Scott Goodson, one daughter, Kendra Witherspoon and eight grandchildren; Vince, Tyler, Dakota, Dylan, Xavier, Logan, Sierra and Isabelle, two great-grandchildren and several nieces. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 5 at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel and the family will receive friends in the Annex Chapel from 1:00pm to 2:00pm prior to the service.
