Obituary: Donald Mitchell Hartsell, Sr., 78, passed away October 2, 2014 at CMC-Northeast. Mr. Hartsell was born August 29, 1936 in Stanley County to David Hubert Hartsell and Verna Mae Lisenby Hartsell. He was married 53 years to his loving wife, Brenda Hartsell. Mr. Hartsell worked as a Service Manager for auto dealerships in Charlotte, NC. In his later years, he worked at the Kannapolis Walmart. A lifelong resident of Kannapolis with a strong love for his community, Mr. Hartsell was a regular at city council meetings and a volunteer for Downtown Kannapolis Inc. events and community revitalization projects. Mr. Hartsell was also a veteran who proudly served his country in the Korean War. Very adventurous in his younger years, he had his pilot's license, loved flying airplanes, and sky diving. He also enjoyed motorsports, built engines, and raced in drag racing events. An avid boater, he loved spending time with his family at the lake. He will always be remembered as a kind, gentle soul and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. Don is survived by his loving wife of the home, Brenda Watts Hartsell, five children, Mitchell Hartsell (Mary Ruth) of Concord, Donald M. "Donnie" Hartsell, Jr. of Kannapolis; Renae Hartsell of Kannapolis, Kelly Michimi (Toshiya) of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Clint Hartsell (Renee) of Bloomingrose, W.VA; four grandchildren, Travis Hartsell, Shinya Michimi, Cody Hartsell, and Kayla Hartsell; Sisters, Sandra Holland and Pamela Blackwell; and a brother, Wesley Hartsell.
