Donald Bruce Jenkins

Obituary: Donald Bruce "Smiley" Jenkins, 72, of Kannapolis went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at his residence following a period of declining health. Donald was born February 16, 1947 in Chesterfield County, SC, a son of the late John McCoy Jenkins and Bertha Jewett Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters, a daughter; Brenda Kelley who died Jan. 8, 2015, and a grandson Dustin Mullis who died January 5, 2018. Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Bonnie Gunner Jenkins of the Home, one daughter, Lori Mullis and husband Todd of China Grove, two granddaughters, Brandy Allen and husband Sean, and Ashley George, one grandson, David Hilburn and wife Monica, one brother Joe Jenkins and wife Pam of Gastonia and nine great grandchildren. Donald was a member of Charity Baptist Church and the Greater Vision Sunday School Class. He was a veteran of the US Army. He was an electrician at Cannon Mills for many years and later worked at David Broadway Electric. His grandchildren were the focus of his life. He was known to be able to fix anything. He was affectionately known by the neighborhood children as "Buddy". Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Charity Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Marty Peyton and Rev. Cramer Kilpatrick. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. At other times they will be at the residence. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081 Whitley's Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Jenkins.
