Donald Smith

Obituary: Donald G. Smith, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at CMC-NorthEast, Concord, NC after a period of declining health. He was born August 22, 1935 in Cabarrus County, NC, the son of the late Lawrence B. Smith and Virginia Goodnight Smith. Don was a graduate of the former Odell High School. He was employed with the former Cannon Mills Company, Plant One, # 7 Quiller Room for 42 years until his retirement. Don was also an active member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where he was a deacon, church training director, Sunday School teacher, and active in other phases of church activities. He and his wife worked for 35 years helping the A.L. Brown High School band raise funds and as chaperones on their various trips. Among his other interests, he loved gardening and playing with his grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at North Kannapolis Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC officiated by Rev. Chris O'Guin and Rev. Richard Bailey. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, NC with military rites conducted by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, May 30, 2014 at Whitley's Funeral Home, Kannapolis. The family will be at the residence the remainder of the time. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Juanita Campbell Smith; one son, Keith Smith & wife, Beth of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren, Lauren Smith & fiancé, Seth Brown of Mooresville, NC, Brandon Smith of Mooresville, NC.
