Donnie Payne

Obituary: Donnie Leonard Payne, 80, of Kannapolis passed away Friday, November 4, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House after a courageous battle, for a number of years, with many obstacles of ill health. Funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM Monday (Nov. 7) at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steven Cline officiating, burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday at Whitley's Funeral Home. Donnie was born August 4, 1936 to the late Connie Woodson Payne and Nettie Mae Scott Payne. He owned D.L. Payne Tree Service. Donnie loved spending time with his family, enjoyed fishing and just being an outdoors person where he treasured simply listening to God's creation each morning and late evening. Donnie was endlessly working on all sorts of projects, which kept him going in his final years. He always stood ready to help anyone at any time with anything. He was preceded in death by his daughter Connie Jordan, one sister and three brothers. Those left to cherish his memory, his wife Wilma Deas Payne, two sons, Joey Payne of Kannapolis, David Payne and wife Ellen of China Grove, one daughter Debbie Payne Savage of Mt. Gilead, seven grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
