Obituary: CONCORD - Donnie Michael Wood, 59, suddenly departed this life on March 27, 2009, at CMC-NorthEast in Concord. Donnie was born on May 29, 1949, in Cabarrus County to the late Gartrell Wood and his mother, Lena Aldridge Wood. Donnie was employed with Cannon Mills for more than 25 years until liquidation, and with Wal-Mart until his recent sickness. Donnie was fun loving and a giving person who loved playing practical jokes, especially on his sisters. Donnie is survived by his mother, Lena Wood, of Concord; three sisters, Sylvia Funderburk, and husband, Jerry, of Huntersville, Kay Lentz, and husband, Joel, of Concord, Patsy Hines, and husband, Glenn, of Huntersville; a niece, Heather Lentz, of Mt. Pleasant; two nephews, Matthew Hines, of Huntersville, and Jon Lentz, and wife, Beth, of Huntersville. Donnie was a member of New Hope Worship Center in Concord. Donnie's gift to his family was an unconditional love, which he shared throughout his lifetime and until the very end. He will be missed, he will be remembered and he will be loved forever. A service to celebrate the life of Donnie will be at New Hope Worship Center Monday, March 30 at 2 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Dale Jenkins and the Rev. Tom Snipes. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove. The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Intensive Care unit at CMC-NorthEast for all their wonderful care of Donnie.
