Obituary: Concord, NC Doris Lynne Bullard Bridgers Doris Bridgers, 64, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2016 at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis. Doris is a loving wife, mother, grandmother and educator. Doris touched the lives of several generations of children through her teaching of early childhood children for over 34 years. Doris is survived by her husband of 39 years, Wayne Bridgers, sons Michael Bridgers, Aaron Bridgers (Capucine) and children Ava and Aidan, Jonathan Bridgers (Kylene); her sister, Gail Price (Lester), brother Larry Bullard (Jackie). Doris was preceded in death by her mother, Opal Bullard and father Jack Bullard of Asheboro. Doris was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill 1974 with a BA in Education; UNC-Charlotte 1997 with a Masters of Education. Doris obtained National Board Teacher Certification in 1997 and still maintains that certification. Doris was a life member of the National Association of Educators, NC Association of Education, having served as a past State Board Director from the Cabarrus-Mecklenburg District. Doris taught early childhood classes in Montgomery County, Wake County, Kannapolis City Schools and completed her career at Cox Mill Elementary School. In 1999-2000, Doris was honored as teacher of the year for Kannapolis City Schools. One of the great joys of her life was being able to teach, mentor and nurture the futures of thousands of students. A memorial service to celebrate Doris' life will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel officiated by Rev. Meghan McSwain.
